Visit Winston-Salem Welcomes New President

On Tuesday, January 5, 2010, The Forsyth County Tourism Development Authority and Visit Winston-Salem will welcome President Richard Geiger with an open house from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon.  The open house will allow members of the media to meet and talk with Geiger. A brief introduction and remarks will be given at 10:30 am.

The event will take place at the Visit Winston-Salem offices at 200 Brookstown Avenue, in the Historic Brookstown Mill area. Parking is available on Brookstown Avenue and behind the Visit Winston-Salem offices.

Geiger is the former President of the Buffalo Niagara Convention and Visitors Bureau where he spent 14 years. During his time there he achieved a significant increase in convention bookings, successfully hosted amateur athletic events and focused on cultural and heritage tourism. Under his leadership, Buffalo exceeded the national average for hotel occupancy in 2008. Geiger was named Executive of the Year by the Public Relations Society of America, Buffalo Niagara Chapter, and one of Western New York's 100 Most Influential People by Business First.
 
Prior to his work in Buffalo, Geiger was the Director of Convention Sales and Marketing for the Orlando Convention and Visitors Bureau, and is credited with expanding its brand beyond tourism and securing national and international convention business.
 
Geiger will begin his new position on February 1, 2010.
