Museum Quest
To kick off the start of the New Year, Winston-Salem area museums are offering the public a great adventure for a great price. Between January 1, 2010 and March 31, 2010, after visiting one of the participating museums, be sure to hang on to the ticket stub. That stub will be a visitor's magic carpet to a quest of the area's most interesting and enriching sites. Purchase one full price ticket at any of the area's participating museums, and then show the ticket stub at any one of the other four attractions and receive general admission at half price.
SECCA and Krankies to present film series starting Feb. 4
The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) and Krankies Coffee are partnering to present a film series called "Art Grind." This free series will present documentary and independent films that reflect upon the nature of art, music, creativity, ingenuity and the human spirit. The series will be held on the first Thursday of every month beginning Feb. 4. Screenings will be held at 7 p.m. at Krankies Werehouse located at 211 East Third Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
Hawthorne Gallery opens ³NEW WORKS² on 2/11/2010.
On Thursday, February 11th Hawthorne Gallery will open NEW WORKS, an exhibit by six artists from North Carolina. The exhibit will run through April 10th. Jacob Cooley, Pam Crist, Sharon Hardin, Linda Passman, George Schober, and Wayne Trapp will show new paintings, sculptures, and photographs.

Downtown Goes Big Time with "The Big Winter Bash"
Winston-Salem, NC. A mid-winter celebration to entice people to come downtown has been planned for Friday, February 26, 2010. The 2nd Annual Big Winter Bash, presented by The Winston-Salem Millennium Fund, will be held in The Millennium Center at Trade and Fifth Streets, starting at 8pm. The event is being produced by The Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership.
SciWorks and Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools Host Seventh Annual Egg Drop Competition
Hundreds of students will drop eggs off the Belk Court balcony at Hanes Mall on Saturday, 2/20/10 – all in the name of science. The competition, designed to promote engineering and science in the K-12 community, asks participants to design a device to protect a raw egg from a second-story drop. Through the process of addressing a design problem and developing a solution, the aim of the contest is to ignite the spark of excitement about science!

It’s been two years since the Sawtooth School for Visual Art temporarily vacated its landmark building on Marshall Street, but that’s about to change. Classes and summer activities will once again liven up the Sawtooth building in June, and the public is invited to take a sneak peek at the beautifully renovated and enhanced facility on Thursday, May 20 from 6-9 p.m.
Internationally Acclaimed Glass Artist Jon Kuhn to Present Crystal Cross to Pope Benedict XVI
North Carolina glass artist Jon Kuhn announced today that he and his representative, Al Priest, president of Salem Stained Glass, have been granted a September 29 audience with Pope Benedict XVI in Rome to present the gift of a radiant Kuhn cross to the Pontiff. The 32 1/2 x 19-inch work of art contains 15-thousand facets of clear optical grade crystal and symbolizes the Light of God. The center of the cross is tinged with crimson to represent the Sacred Heart.

Tony Bennett Headlines Opening Gala for New Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts
The new Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC, will open its doors on Friday, September 10 with the Light Up the Arts Gala with Tony Bennett presented by Hanesbrands Inc., followed by Community Weekend presented by Reynolds American and Wachovia, a Wells Fargo Company, featuring more than 100 arts and cultural experiences under one roof on September 11 and 12.

SECCA Presents Free Community Day for Families August 14th
The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) is presenting a free community day for families on Saturday, Aug. 14. The event will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at SECCA, located at 750 Marguerite Drive.
The Winston-Salem Air Show Takes Flight in 2010
The 2010 Winston-Salem Air Show zooms into the sky once again on Saturday, September 11th and Sunday, September 12th at the Smith Reynolds Airport, 3801 North Liberty Street.
A small taste of the star-studded performance lineup includes the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team, hailed as the best civilian formation squad ever to perform in their agile AT-6 Texan trainers. Another team is the Sky Soldiers, an all-volunteer group of retired veterans who fly AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters. The renowned GEICO Skytypers Air Show Team will be using the horizon as their backdrop to create messages using six vintage WWII airplanes. William Ward and his Russian MIG 21, the first of its kind to be flying at a North Carolina air show, will be pushing the speed of sound at 700mph. The Tora-Tora-Tora Bomb Squadron will thrill crowds with their world famous “wall of Flames”.
