Winston-Salem, N.C. Wins Prestigious Bid to Host 2014 USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships
Visit Winston-Salem won the bid to host the 2014 USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The event will bring an estimated 2,100 athletes, coaches and support staff producing 1,500 hotel room nights and generating $600,000 in economic impact for Winston-Salem July 15-20, 2014.

Andy Roddick Signs with Winston-Salem Open
Andy Roddick has joined the list of commitments to play in the Winston-Salem Open at Wake Forest University Aug. 20-27, tournament director Bill Oakes announced today. Roddick, a former World No. 1 who is currently No. 12 in the South African Airways ATP rankings, will receive one of the tournament’s four wildcard entries.

Winston-Salem Open Releases Player Field
Nine Players Ranked in the Top 37 The Winston-Salem Open at Wake Forest University announced today the player field for the inaugural tournament taking place August 21-27. As of today’s announcement, 38 of the 48 slots have been filled in the men’s singles competition through the ATP’s tournament acceptance process. Additionally, the tournament has granted its first "wild card" to previously announced rising young American Ryan Harrison. The deadline for players to submit their interest in playing in the Winston-Salem Open was Monday, July 11.

Dash to Host 2012 All-Star Game BB&T Ballpark to Showcase Baseball's Future Stars
The Winston-Salem Dash announced today that BB&T Ballpark will host the 2012 California – Carolina League All-Star Game. Many of baseball’s best young stars will descend upon Winston-Salem on June 19, 2012 as the two Advanced-A leagues will face off in the 16th edition of the game.

More than 20 Sport Venues Selected For 25th Annual Powerade State Games of North Carolina in Winston-Salem, June 17-26
North Carolina Amateur Sports has selected over 20 official venues for the 18 sports scheduled for the 25th Annual Powerade State Games of North Carolina. Over 13,000 North Carolina athletes of every age and skill level will compete in Winston-Salem this June, at some of the city’s most prestigious sport venues, including the BB&T Ballpark, Wake Forest University, Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, and many more. Three sports, figure skating (May 21), mountain bike and track and field (June 11-12) will take place outside of the two major weekends.

MEAC to Extend Basketball Tournament Stay in Winston-Salem (NC) Through 2012
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced a one-year extension for the City of Winston-Salem (NC) to host the annual men’s and women’s basketball tournament through 2012.

ATP World Tour Event Relocated from New Haven to Winston-Salem
The USTA and ATP World Tour today announced the sale of the ATP World Tour event previously located in New Haven, Conn. to Winston-Salem Professional Tennis. Beginning in August 2011, the 48-draw tournament will take place in a to-be-constructed tennis facility on the campus of Wake Forest University. The newly-designed state-of-the-art tennis facility will be constructed to host both professional and collegiate tennis events. The facility will be located between the current indoor tennis training center and BB&T Field, home of the Wake Forest Demon Deacon football team. Plans call for the construction of 10-12 Deco-Turf II courts, and will include center court seating with a minimum of 3,500 and two additional show courts which will hold at least 1,500 each.

"Beat the Heat" 5K Race to be held in Winston-Salem
"Beat the Heat", a 5K road race will be held on Saturday, July 17 on the grounds of Wake Forest University's BB&T Field/Groves Stadium. A one-mile Fun Run/Walk will begin at 6:30pm with the feature 5K run at 7:00pm.

MEAC Men's Bracket set for 2010 Tournament
Bears Earn Top Seed for Third Straight Year The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced the men's pairings for the 2010 MEAC Basketball Tournament following the conference's final regular-season matchups Tuesday night. For the third straight season the Morgan State Bears earned the No. 1 seed and an early round bye to compete for the tournament title and an automatic berth to the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament.

Visit Winston-Salem Names New Sports and Event Sales Manager
Visit Winston-Salem and the Forsyth County Tourism Development Authority are pleased to announce that Bonny Bernat has joined the staff as the sports and event sales manager. Bonny will manage Visit Winston-Salem sports marketing effort for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, North Carolina. With over a decade of experience in the travel industry Bonny was most recently with The Charlotte Destination Group and prior to that with the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitor Bureau, in Springfield Massachusetts.
